01 / Colors & varieties

This collection concerns jadeite, not every material sold under a “jade” trade name. Confirm material identity for the offered piece.

A closer look before you choose

Identity and durability

Jadeite and nephrite are distinct jade materials: jadeite is a pyroxene, nephrite an amphibole aggregate. Their Mohs hardness ranges are approximately 6.5–7 and 6–6.5 respectively. Both can be exceptionally tough, but neither is immune to scratching or breakage.

Colours and value

Compare colour, transparency and texture, then carving, polish, dimensions and fractures. Imperial green, lavender and colourless icy material have different appeal. Glassy, icy, jelly and pea-like texture names are trade descriptions, not universal grades. Black jade requires mineral identification; colour alone does not identify omphacite.

Sources and provenance

Myanmar and Guatemala are important jadeite sources. Evaluate the actual piece rather than assuming that every Myanmar stone is superior or every Guatemalan stone is lower quality. Origin documentation is separate from proof of treatment status and mine-to-market traceability.

Treatments and reports

Type A describes untreated jadeite apart from traditional surface waxing; B is acid-bleached and polymer-impregnated; C is dyed; B+C combines these treatments. These letters describe treatment, not beauty or quality. B/C material can still be jadeite, but must be disclosed as treated. Match any report to the offered piece.

Jewellery and meaningful gifts

Bangles, cabochons, geometric pendants and icy jadeite rings can suit both traditional and modern wardrobes. Jade’s associations with virtue, harmony and protection are cultural beliefs, not medical or financial outcomes. A treasured heirloom is not a guaranteed safe investment; no lifetime certification promise is implied.

Care and buying checks

For a bangle, confirm inner diameter, width, thickness and cracks; for a cabochon, obtain all three dimensions. Request neutral-light images and treatment evidence. Clean with warm soapy water and a soft cloth, avoid harsh chemicals, and seek tailored care advice for treated jade.

02 / Buying details

The details that make a useful comparison.

Understand A, B and C

A refers to untreated jadeite apart from wax polishing; B to acid bleaching followed by polymer impregnation; C to dyed material. These treatment terms are not quality grades.

Measure the usable piece

For slabs, include length, width and thickness. For cabochons, add dome height and matching requirements. Ask about fractures visible from every side.

Confirm identification

Request a report when treatment or identity is central to the purchase. Match its measurements and photograph, if provided, to the actual item.

Before you choose a lot

Does Type A mean the finest jadeite?

No. It describes treatment status, not color, transparency, texture or geographic origin.

Can total weight alone determine a jadeite price?

No single weight rate is used here. Ask for a piece or lot quotation with dimensions, appearance, treatment and identification stated together.

What should be confirmed before ordering?

Request actual-lot photographs, identity and treatment information, availability, currency, shipping and tax terms. Origin preferences and report requests need separate confirmation.

Start with a question

Explore another gemstone or follow a buying question to the relevant guide.

Before you agree to a gemstone purchase

Use this checklist for the actual stone or lot. Collection illustrations and general descriptions are not proof of identity, origin or availability.

  1. Ask for current photos or video of the identified lot, with dimensions in millimeters, weight and number of pieces.

  2. Request written disclosure of natural or laboratory-grown identity, known treatments and any origin claim. Match a report to the actual stone and verify its number with the issuing laboratory.

  3. Confirm total price, currency, unit, delivery, taxes, payment and return terms in writing before agreeing.

  4. For a Bangkok visit, contact the company first to confirm an appointment and the stones you wish to inspect. Bring your dimensions, budget and report requirements.

Questions that help you choose

Does the same carat weight mean the same size?

No. Carat measures weight: 1 ct = 0.2 g. Different densities, shapes and cutting proportions give different face-up sizes. For a setting, request length × width × depth in millimeters as well as weight; for rough, ask for usable dimensions and visible fractures.

What does a laboratory report establish?

Read the scope and conclusions of that particular report. Identification, treatment findings and origin opinions are different questions. A report is not a price guarantee or proof that a seller currently has the stone. Check that the documented item matches the offer.

How the quotation works

Prices for these collections are confirmed per lot. A gram, carat, piece or lot rate must match the material being offered. Amber price bands and bulk discounts do not apply automatically to other gemstones.
