01 / Colors & varieties

Find your starting point.

Amethyst is purple quartz; citrine ranges from pale yellow to brownish orange. These varieties stay within the quartz collection rather than becoming duplicate mineral families.

Select a specimen to add its color or variety to your request. Confirm appearance and availability with the offered lot.

A closer look before you choose

Identity and durability

Quartz is silicon dioxide with Mohs hardness 7; it can still scratch or chip. Large-crystal varieties include amethyst, citrine, smoky, rose and rock crystal. Fine-grained chalcedony includes agate, carnelian and onyx; jasper is an opaque related material.

Colours and value

Explore purple amethyst, golden citrine, two-colour ametrine, pink rose quartz and included quartz. Rutile needles, black tourmaline or garden-like inclusions create distinctive patterns. Judge the actual composition, clarity and cutting; dense inclusions or the trade name Siberian do not automatically establish superior value or origin.

Sources and provenance

Bolivia’s Anahí deposit is a notable ametrine source; quartz also occurs widely elsewhere. Garden quartz and lodolite are descriptive trade names. A scenic inclusion is not proof of a specific mine. Ask for provenance evidence before paying an origin premium.

Treatments and reports

Much commercial citrine results from heating amethyst; colour alone cannot prove untreated origin. Irradiation, heating, dyes and coatings are used on various quartz materials; green prasiolite may be treated. Hydrothermal synthetic quartz exists. Request clear identity and treatment disclosure, avoiding unsupported market percentages or permanence claims.

Jewellery and meaningful gifts

Large custom cuts work well in pendants and cocktail rings. Amethyst is a February birthstone, citrine a November birthstone, and rose quartz often symbolizes affection. Crystal traditions can carry personal meaning; quartz’s piezoelectric use in technology does not demonstrate healing or bodily energy-balancing effects.

Care and buying checks

Ask for actual-piece photographs, dimensions, treatment details and inclusion close-ups. Choose by appearance and budget rather than guaranteed uniqueness, sustainability or appreciation. Clean with warm soapy water, avoid thermal shock and harsh chemicals, and protect colour-sensitive material from prolonged strong light.

The details that make a useful comparison.

Specify the variety and use

State whether the material is intended for faceting, carving or collecting. Ask about transparency and fractures instead of assuming every rough piece is cutting grade.

More buying details

Ask how color was obtained

Much commercial citrine is heat-treated amethyst. Ask for treatment disclosure on the actual lot; the variety name alone does not establish an untreated color.

Use a clear weight basis

Rough requests can use grams, kilograms or lots; faceted requests can use carats, pieces or lots. A lot count needs its contents described separately.

03 / Price basis

A clear specification before a price.

Prices and availability are confirmed against an actual lot. These request units are not fixed price bands. No approved live selling rates are published for this collection.

For a lot, describe its contents in the notes. 1 metric carat = 0.2 g; 1 kg = 1,000 g. A piece or lot has no fixed weight.

Before you choose a lot

Are amethyst and citrine different mineral families?

They are different varieties of quartz. Keep the variety explicit in every lot request and quotation.

Can a kilogram price be used for faceted stones?

Weight units can be converted, but quality and processing costs cannot. Request a separate price for the actual form and selected stones.

What should be confirmed before ordering?

Request actual-lot photographs, identity and treatment information, availability, currency, shipping and tax terms. Origin preferences and report requests need separate confirmation.

Start with a question

Explore another gemstone or follow a buying question to the relevant guide.

Before you agree to a gemstone purchase

Use this checklist for the actual stone or lot. Collection illustrations and general descriptions are not proof of identity, origin or availability.

  1. Ask for current photos or video of the identified lot, with dimensions in millimeters, weight and number of pieces.

  2. Request written disclosure of natural or laboratory-grown identity, known treatments and any origin claim. Match a report to the actual stone and verify its number with the issuing laboratory.

  3. Confirm total price, currency, unit, delivery, taxes, payment and return terms in writing before agreeing.

  4. For a Bangkok visit, contact the company first to confirm an appointment and the stones you wish to inspect. Bring your dimensions, budget and report requirements.

Questions that help you choose

Does the same carat weight mean the same size?

No. Carat measures weight: 1 ct = 0.2 g. Different densities, shapes and cutting proportions give different face-up sizes. For a setting, request length × width × depth in millimeters as well as weight; for rough, ask for usable dimensions and visible fractures.

What does a laboratory report establish?

Read the scope and conclusions of that particular report. Identification, treatment findings and origin opinions are different questions. A report is not a price guarantee or proof that a seller currently has the stone. Check that the documented item matches the offer.

How the quotation works

Prices for these collections are confirmed per lot. A gram, carat, piece or lot rate must match the material being offered. Amber price bands and bulk discounts do not apply automatically to other gemstones.
